Effects of Sample Plot Size and Prediction Models on Diameter Distribution Recovery

چکیده
Abstract Distribution of tree diameters in a stand is characterized using models that predict diameter moments and/or percentiles conjunction with mathematical system to recover the parameters an assumed statistical distribution. Studies have compared Weibull distribution recovery systems but arrived at different conclusions regarding best approach for recovering stand’s from predicted stand-level statistics. We assessed effects sample plot size and moments/percentiles prediction on accuracy three approaches used parameters—method moments, percentile method, moments-percentile hybrid method. Data five sizes, four which were virtually created existing larger plots, unthinned loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) plantations, fit moments/percentile evaluate recovered approaches. Both model form affected as indicated by changes their ranking one another same form. The method ranked when evaluation error index did not account stumpage value, value was considered.

The Effects of Plot Shape and Size on Determining the Distribution Pattern of Astragalus verus Olivier
The distribution pattern of plants is an important characteristic of plant communities, being of critical importance in ecological studies and sampling plans. This study was designed to investigate the efficiency of different shapes and sizes of quadrants to delineate the spatial patterns of Astragalus verus Olivier by using dispersion indices. At Mayan Rangeland (Khorasan Razavi), a digital ca...
متن کاملEffects of sample size on accuracy of species distribution models
Given increasing access to large amounts of biodiversity information, a powerful capability is that of modeling ecological niches and predicting geographic distributions. Because, sampling species’ distributions is costly, we explored sample size needs for accurate modeling for three predictive modeling methods via re-sampling of data for well-sampled species, and developed curves of model impr...

Sample size determination is important in all statistical studies including longitudinal studies. This is usually done by considering a target power to reduce the costs of sampling. Choosing the right sample size using efficient methods, ensures that the researcher achieve goal of the study, by spending the least amount of energy, time and money. In this article, using a method based on simulat...
متن کاملEffects of sample size on the performance of species distribution models
A wide range of modelling algorithms is used by ecologists, conservation practitioners, and others to predict species ranges from point locality data. Unfortunately, the amount of data available is limited for many taxa and regions, making it essential to quantify the sensitivity of these algorithms to sample size. This is the first study to address this need by rigorously evaluating a broad su...
